Director of Communications

Position Summary

The Director of Communications should be passionate about the mission of Thomasville First Baptist and can embody our vision, values, and brand in all communication content. They will produce content that engages, informs, and inspires by taking conceptual ideas and creating visual representations, in print and digital form.

The Director of Communications will lead all brand strategy and implementation including online community management, marketing, social media, branding, graphic design, video, and other digital communication needs. They will have expert knowledge of current design software and be skilled in every step of the design process from concept to the final deliverable. They will be known for leading in innovation and creativity as they help Thomasville First Baptist fulfill its mission. They will maintain healthy and helpful relationships with all staffand represent Thomasville First Baptist with excellence.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, graphic design, art, or similar discipline
  • 5+ years of experience (academic and professional) with design software, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, or similar
  • Proven experience with graphic design and marketing, with a convincing portfolio of work

Primary Responsibilities

Brand Manager

  • Cast vision and direct communication strategy for all internal and external content
  • Seek and obtain input from Pastors & Ministry Directors, ensuring designs meet organizational standards and brand expectations, express ideas accurately, and represent the church appropriately
  • Collaborate, brainstorm, and strategize with ministry leaders for a wide range of materials that may include web pages, social media, presentations, programming, signage, internal communication, newsletters, and marketing materials
  • Guide promotional strategy for all internal and external events and programming
  • Evaluate emerging communication technologies and provide leadership and perspective for adoption where appropriate
  • Identify physical and digital advertising trends, and create and optimize ad spending when appropriate
  • Work with vendors for marketing needs when needed

Project Management

  • Manage a wide range of projects using various software to visualize and develop innovative designs that may include sermon series, website, digital, event promotion, t-shirts, print, and promotions
  • Work independently and cooperatively on multiple projects with Thomasville First Baptist staff, meeting deadlines and managing expenses effectively
  • Manage the design and creative process of all project material, from conception to final deliverable.

Website & Social Media Management

  • Manage, update, and refresh the design of fbcthomasville.com
  • Schedule regular content for social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Update and maintain internal databases of designs, photography, and video

Writing/Editing

  • Develop and protect the voice, style, and language Thomasville First Baptist uses in all messaging
  • Write and edit all publications, social media posts, video scripts, and printed materials

Video & Photography

  • Plan, direct, and edit videos for digital content with assistance from the Worship & Media team
  • Produce sermon bumpers and ministry celebration videos for services and online content
  • Help grow and develop video content on social media platforms
  • Work with video production companies or freelancers on major video projects
  • Coordinate photography of the life and events of the church to use in various communication materials (website, social media, print, slides), outsourcing photography for special events as needed

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout, and design competency
  • Knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media
  • Experience developing and implementing communication strategies
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to set and achieve strategic objectives and manage a budget
  • Highly collaborative style with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people and communicate with people at all levels
  • Knowledge of WordPress
  • Photography experience and proficiency with photo-editing software
